India's IT scenario. 05-17

India reinvented itself 20 years back when the IT outsourcing began followed by Y2K. Though IT has a huge hallo surrounding it. The total contribution it has towards Indian job creation is just around 5% (or half a million) even at a very generous estimate.

Hence, even considering that all of these jobs are lost, 95% of the job creation process is still intact. Just half a million jobs expected to be lost over the next five years, does not effect the 500 million working peoplef India drastically. It just works to just 1%

India is basically an agriculture based economy. About 65% of Indians are employed either in Agriculture or Agriculture related occupations. So long as the farmer is growing crops, and there are enough people to consume them, this industry is not likely to stop growing any time soon.

Manufacturing industry is looking up. Each and every manufacturing domain has a related and dedicated IT requirement. Sooner or later they will not only absorb these people but come.

Impact though initially significant will be miniscule (or even less than that) in the long run. We have the Made in India, Skill India projects. These will ensure that the skills are not only developed, but they are gainfully put into employment and National Development.

To even imagine, that the Indian employment market depends on the whims and fancies of an American President is hugely laughable.

President John F Kennedy did put India in a fix, when he refused to help us militarily during the China war in 1962, but that only increased India's resilience and resolve to be self dependent in Defence requirements. And the continous efforts of the governments down the line have made India what it is today.

Smt. Indira Gandhi was responsible in setting up the defence mnufacturing and R& D facilities. Shri. Narasimha Rao helped the development of technology, Dr. Manmohan Singh gave us the refoms that pushed up the growth rate of Indian economy considerably.

Not much impact will be there, if the Americans close doors to the Indian tech professionals.

And by the way, how can a country with 1/3 population and 3.5% economic growth rate, dictate to a country with a Billion population and growth rate of 7% +
